Harrisonburg, Va. –  A former Harrisonburg firefighter accused of taking equipment from the fire station where he worked avoided jail time after reaching a plea deal yesterday in Rockingham County General District Court.

Christopher Mawyer of Broadway pleaded guilty to two counts of petit larceny.

In exchange for the plea, the 27-year-old Mawyer received just under two years of suspended jail time, two years of supervised probation and had two other charges dropped.

Mawyer was arrested on December 9th after an investigation showed that he had entered Harrisonburg Fire Station Number 4 on East Rock Street and took equipment from two trucks.
