STAUNTON, Va – Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred over the weekend in Augusta County.

The accident happened shortly after 8:30 last night on westbound Interstate 64 near the I-81 interchange.

Spokesperson Shelby Crouch reports a 2005 Toyota 4-Runner was traveling west on I-64 when it ran off the left side of the road, over-corrected, ran off the left side of the road again and struck an embankment. The vehicle then overturned several times.

A passenger in the vehicle, 18-year-old Amber Rainsberger of Parker, Colorado, died at the scene while the driver, 21-year-old Gabrielle Woodbury of Saint Johns, Florida, was hospitalized with serious injuries.

Crouch said Woodbury was charged with reckless driving.
