Hoover to Serve 30 Years in Prison For Murder of 2-Year-old

STAUNTON, Va – It is 30 years in prison for the Staunton man who admitted to killing a 2-year-old girl more than a year and a half ago.

Christopher Scott Hoover decided to forego a trial last October and plead guilty instead to murder by homicide and child abuse causing serious injury in connection with the death of Averianna May back in June of 2022.

Hoover was described as being in a caregiver role at the time of her death.

A Staunton Circuit Court judge sentenced the 25-year-old Hoover to 50 years in prison with 20 of those years suspended during a hearing Thursday afternoon.

He will also serve five years of supervised probation upon his release.
