A trial for one of the two people accused of killing Augusta County three-year-old Khaleesi Cuthriell is set to begin today.

A jury was selected on Friday ahead of the five-day trial for 31-year-old Travis Brown in Augusta County Circuit Court. He faces eight counts in connection with the high-profile case – including murder, child abuse, and concealing a dead body.

Cuthriell was placed in the care of Brown and partner Candi Jo Royer in October 2020 by her mother, who was about to begin a prison sentence.

The girl was declared missing in early September 2021, and while her body was never found, Sheriff Donald Smith said weeks later that she had been declared dead.
