Harrisonburg City Public Schools says that new campus safety protocols will be in place across the division, beginning this school year.

During last night’s work session, Chief Operating Officer Shawn Printz unveiled a color-coded system that will rate the severity of any campus lockdowns.

With the lockdown at Harrisonburg High School this spring still top of mind, school board chairperson Deb Fitzgerald said the new system will clear up confusion around frantic situations.

She added that color-coded lockdowns will allow schools to maintain better control during an emergency.
