The Waynesboro Area Refuge Ministry, known as WARM, and Open Doors are both planning to open warming shelters in November. The Acting Executive Director for WARM, says first they need to hold a fundraiser as well as hire and train staff. He tells WFXR that they served 35 people in their shelter last year, but with the increasingly tough housing market they are now trying to accommodate 70 people this year. The Executive Director of Open Doors says not only do they try and provide warm clothing but a partnership with Sentara means they can offer a clinic to reduce injury and death due to cold weather. Donations are welcome at both charities.
