Waynesboro Veterinarian dies after being struck by car

A beloved Waynesboro area veterinarian has died, after being struck by a car on Monday.  51-year old Valerie Weiss, a vet at the Animal Hospital of Waynesboro died at UVA Medical Center.

Waynesboro Police Sergeant Fred Smith reports the incident happened just after 4:30 Monday afternoon in the 1000 block of Jefferson Avenue.

Smith said a preliminary investigation revealed that 53-year-old Richard Lee Hale of Waynesboro was driving south on Jefferson Avenue in his 2014 Ford four-door when he stuck Weiss, walking northbound in the same block.

Hale’s vehicle then reportedly also struck a parked 2006 Honda Accord.

Weiss, was taken to U-V-A Medical Center in Charlottesville for treatment where she later died.

No word yet if charges will be placed.
