BRIDGEWATER, Va. (BC Athletics) – The Bridgewater College women’s soccer team secured a 1-0 victory over Southern Virginia on Wednesday afternoon, thanks to an early goal and a solid defensive performance.

How it Happened
• The Eagles struck first, as Brianna Curro netted the game’s only goal in the eighth minute, with an assist from Cassandra Villafan, giving Bridgewater an early 1-0 lead.
• Southern Virginia attempted to respond in the first half, but Erinn Lockard denied shots from Savannah James and Ashlee Kelsey, maintaining the lead. The Knights generated opportunities and ended the opening 45 minutes with six shots but went into the break trailing 1-0.
• In the second half, Bridgewater continued to press for an insurance goal, launching 10 shots after halftime. Laura Narby and Sophia Phillips both had shots on target, yet Southern Virginia’s goalkeeper, Chloë Miller, kept the Eagles from extending their advantage.
• The Bridgewater defense held firm, allowing only two shots from Southern Virginia in the second half. Lockard made a crucial save on Ashley Hamblin in the 84th minute to secure the shutout.
