BRIDGEWATER, Va. (BC Athletics) – The Bridgewater College field hockey team defeated McDaniel 2-1 on Wednesday night after Emily Dickinson’s game-winner late in the fourth quarter.

How It Happened
• Bridgewater had the game’s first scoring chance in the second minute on a penalty corner. Mollie Best rifled a shot on frame, but the stop was made by Scarengello for McDaniel.BC kept on the front foot with a pair of penalty corners and cashed in with under five to play in the frame. Dickinson sent a pass across the offensive zone to Reese Davis, and she buried her shot in the back of the net to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. McDaniel wasted no time in responding as Rachel Adel made the stop on the first Green Terror shot she faced, but Gregory buried the rebound to level the game at 1-1 late in the first frame. BC looked to wrestle the lead back with three more shots in the period, highlighted by a howitzer from Dickinson that was turned away.
• McDaniel controlled the scoring chances during the start of the second quarter. MC earned a penalty corner and ripped a shot that just missed wide of the cage in the opening moments of the quarter. Bridgewater earned its own scoring chance in the final 90 seconds of the period as Lexi Francis ripped a shot on frame that was stopped by Scarengello just before the end of the half.
• The visiting team earned a penalty corner in the second minute of the second half. Thaleia Khader started the second half in goal for the Eagles and was tested immediately as she made three saves in succession from the Green Terror to keep the game level. BC earned a penalty corner of its own with five minutes to go in the period, and Natalie Stock had a good look from in the scoring area, but her shot missed just wide of the cage. Khader was tested once more during the closing stages of the quarter as MC earned a trio of penalty corners. The rookie was unphased again as she made a pair of stops to keep the 1-1 scoreline heading to the final period.
• The two sides traded scoring opportunities to open the fourth frame, and both goalkeepers stood their ground. Khader made a pair of saves, and the BC defense fended off a pair of penalty corners by MC to keep the game knotted up. The Eagles flipped the field and looked to pounce. Mollie Best rifled her shot wide, but BC kept pushing. Dickinson fired a shot from in tight, and it was saved. She corralled the rebound and pushed it across the goal line and in to give the Eagles the lead back with under four minutes on the clock. McDaniel tried to get the equalizer in the final moments of the contest, but could not muster a shot as BC held on for the win.
Game Notes
• Dickinson scored the game-winner with under four minutes to play, and tallied an assist on the game’s opening goal. Khader made seven saves in the cage in the second half for BC, while Adel had a stop in the first half.
• Gregory had MC’s lone goal. Minor and Noah each had four shots for the Green Terror in the loss. Scarengello made five saves for MC.
• Bridgewater had a slight edge in shots at 13-11, but McDaniel held a 9-7 advantage in shots on frame. MC also had a slight 7-6 advantage in shots on goal.
