James Madison’s Louisell named Sun Belt Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week

NEW ORLEANS (JMU Athletics) – For the second time this season, Kennedy Louisell garnered Offensive Player of the Week honors from the Sun Belt Conference.

The fourth year outside hitter had 49 kills during the Dukes’ 2-0 weekend at Georgia State, including a season-best 31 kills against the Panthers in Friday’s 3-2 victory. She hit .447 for the weekend, going 18-3-32 on Thursday (W, 3-0) and 31-4-62 on Friday. She has reached double-digit kills in 45 consecutive matches, gone over the 15-kill mark 34 times and eclipsed the 30-kill level three times in her career.

In match two, Louisell added 15 digs to her stat line, a season-high, to notch her fifth double-double of the season.

This is the seventh Offensive Player of the Week accolade for Louisell.

Louisell is averaging 4.54 kills per set, which ranks 12th in the nation. She is contributing 5.46 points per set, the sixth-best average in the country.

The Dukes have started SBC action 4-0 to move to 9-5 overall. JMU takes a seven-match win streak back on the road this week with a pair of matches at Marshall on Oct. 8 at 6 p.m. and Oct. 9 at 3 p.m. in Huntington, W. Va. The Thundering Herd is currently fourth in the SBC East Division (10-5, 3-1 SBC) while the Dukes are second.
