HARRISONBURG, Va. (JMU Athletics) – Three innings with three or more runs scored lifted James Madison baseball past George Washington, 12-7, on Tuesday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Park.
The Dukes have won their last four games as they improved to 11-8, while the Revolutionaries fell to 8-11.
Two Dukes recorded three hits as freshman Cameron Aycock set a career high in hits with a 3-for-3 performance that included a triple, two runs scored and three stolen bases. Junior Ben Barrow went 3-for-3 at the plate with a triple, two runs scored and four RBI, as he tied his career high in hits and set a new career best mark for RBI.
Senior Brode Susce earned the win with 1.2 innings of relief, recording a strikeout.
How It Happened
Second Inning
The Revs pushed three runs across for the first runs of the game on a pair of doubles and a wild pitch.
JMU responded with three runs of their own, as redshirt sophomore Clay Thompson and senior Jack Cannizzaro both were hit by pitches to lead off. Senior Wyatt Campbell drove in Thompson on a single before a grounder and a single from junior Kyle Langley tied the game.
Third Inning
A groundout regave the lead back to GWU at 4-3.
Fourth Inning
GWU took a two-run lead with a sacrifice fly.
Langley hit his second game-tying base hit in the home half of the inning, driving in both Barrow and Aycock to knot the game at five. Junior Ike Schmidly then drove in Langley on a triple to give the Dukes a 6-5 lead and touched home plate the next at bat on Reece Moody’s single.
Fifth Inning
Both teams pushed runs across in the fifth inning on bunt singles, with the score at 8-6 entering the sixth inning.
Sixth Inning
Campbell gave the Dukes a three-run lead after getting hit with a pitch with the bases loaded. Barrow then drove a 3-2 pitch into the left center gap for a triple, driving in all three runners on base to make the score 12-6.
Ninth Inning
The Revs scored an unearned run in the ninth on a single after the leadoff batter struck out but reached due to a passed ball.
Game Notes
• Kyle Langley drove in three runs, tying his season high.
• Langley extended his hit streak to 10 games, joining Reece Moody as Dukes this season to have a hit streak reach 10 games.
• The Dukes hit three triples, the most in a game since hitting three against Canisius on March 8, 2015.
• JMU had eight two-out RBI and hit .385 (5-for-13) with two outs.
