ATHENS, Ga. (JMU Athletics) – The #25 Georgia Bulldogs scored three goals in both halves, dropping James Madison women’s soccer, 6-0, at Sanford Stadium on Thursday night.
JMU (1-2-0) was outshot 23-6, with Ellie Farrell and Tali Rovner each sending a shot on goal. Sofia DeCerb got the start at goalkeeper, playing the entire first half and making three saves. Kennedy Rist made her first appearance of the season to start the second half before being replaced by freshman Natalie Muniz in the 75th minute.
Honoka Hamono’s brace paced Georgia. Mya Townes scored a goal and tallied five shots for the Bulldogs.
How it Happened
• The Bulldogs grabbed an early 1-0 lead with Mya Townes rifling a goal off the rebound following a penalty kick that ricocheted off the post.
• The Dukes logged a shot and a corner opportunity in the 15th minute but could not convert.
• Georgia doubled its lead in the 22nd minute after poking a shot into the bottom right corner of the net.
• UGA extended its advantage to 3-0 in the 35th minute, converting on a rebound off a blocked shot.
• JMU managed a pair of shots on goal in the 44th minute, but both were saved.
• The Bulldogs added three more and held the Dukes to only one shot in the second half to hand JMU its second loss of the season.
