JMU’s Michael Scott named Sun Belt Special Teams Player of the Week

HARRISONBURG, Va. (JMU Athletics) – James Madison wide receiver Michael Scott has been named the Sun Belt Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

Scott recorded 303 all-purpose yards with two punt return for touchdowns in JMU’s 87-3 win over Wagner on Sept. 12. The York, Pennsylvania, native’s two scores came from 76 and 69 yards, respectively, and he became just the third Duke in program history to record multiple punt return touchdowns in a game.

Scott also registered a 92-yard kickoff return in the game, and he added three catches for 45 yards on offense. His 303 all-purpose yards are good for the fourth-most in JMU single-game history.

In all, JMU had three punt returns for touchdowns in the victory over the Seahawks, which tied the NCAA record. USC was the last school to achieve the feat in the 2013 season against Cal. Additionally, the Dukes’ 87 points set the program record for points in a game.

The honor is the first of Scott’s career and JMU’s first conference special teams player of the week nod since Curtis Harris-Lopez on Sept. 29, 2025.

The Dukes return to action on Saturday, Sept. 19, at San Diego State. Kickoff at Snapdragon Stadium is set for 10 p.m., ET, on the JMU Radio Network.
