Waynesboro Police investigating assault that left one man critically injured

WAYNESBORO, VA (Rocktown Now) – Police in Waynesboro are investigating an assault that left a Pennsylvania man with life‑threatening injuries late Saturday afternoon.

Officers were dispatched to a Waynesboro park in the 100 block of Short Street at approximately 4:36 p.m. after receiving reports of an assault. When they arrived, they found a 56‑year‑old man from Pennsylvania unconscious and suffering from severe injuries. He was transported to UVA Medical Center for emergency treatment.

A second victim, a 46‑year‑old man from North Carolina, was also located at the scene. He was taken to Augusta Health with injuries described as non‑life‑threatening.

Police say the identities of both individuals are being withheld while the investigation continues. Detectives are still working to determine what led to the assault, and authorities are urging anyone with information to contact Detective Marion at the Waynesboro Police Department at 540‑942‑6675.

According to investigators, the incident appears to be isolated and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
