Day 2 of JMU Football Practice was a beautiful day at Bridgeforth Stadium, not as hot as it could have been on Saturday, but it was warm none the less. Here’s some highlights:

- Watching DB Jimmy Moreland and WR Riley Stapleton battle, is fun. Moreland had a really nice interception that he took away from Riley over the middle, but Stapleton not to be out done, pulled down a few nice catches in the boundary on Moreland and a few other DB’s.
- Junior College Transfer EJ Morgan is a deep threat. He has a quick first step and proved difficult to cover today down the seams.
- Safety Grant Westbrook knocked a ball free after a catch, reaching in from behind to knock the ball out.
- Coach Bob Trott said that Wake Forest Transfer Paris Black was a good fit thus far as were all the transfers.
- Coach Houston stated that the experienced players brought good energy Friday, and that a lot of the younger players stepped up the effort level for Day 2.
- A good bit of time was spent in the early part of practice on Special Teams. This is an area that has always been important to Coach Houston, but he told me with 4 less practices this year, holding an extensive special teams session in practice 2 became a focus.
- Coaches seemed to be pleased with the effort to correct miscues from Day 1 to Day 2, but also said there’s still plenty to clean up and improve on.
- Coach Houston told the team the tone of practice would for sure be different Monday when pads would be added to the practice process.
