The JMU Dukes returned to the practice field Monday morning following Saturday’s scrimmage and Sunday’s review of what happen on Saturday. The fog was heavy at the start of the day, but by the end, the sun was out and the heat and humidity that was present all last week was back again.
Here’s some of what I saw on Monday-
- The search for a starting 5 on the Offensive Line really started to develop as rotations were experimented with in a more specific intent. Coach Mike Houston said on Saturday that the narrowing down for the starting five would be a focus this week.
- Some of the same names at Wide Receiver surfaced with solid catches again Monday:
- Jake Brown (who isn’t afraid of being closely guarded)
- EJ Morgan (continues to prove he can get open)
- Josh Sims (has been a very reliable target all preseason)
- Davis Patterson (made a nifty one handed catch at the goal line after juggling a pass down the sideline) all were big targets during the one of one drills and the team drills
- A couple of young Defensive Backs caught my attention with nice stops, Jamari Currence had a really good break up in the end zone
- Willie Drew stepped in front of a pass in the end zone for an interception
- Veteran DB Curtis Oliver plowed through a Wide Out to affect a run play during the team drill
- Rashad Robinson and KeShaun Moore teamed up for a pass break up over the middle
- Tempo was a focus during team drills to help the offense become adjusted to the faster pace, and the defense who is sure to see the same style at N.C. State.
- Tweaking and finalizing install packages continued on both sides of the ball
